    Reported speech past perfect

    Hi!

Imagine I say "By the time I arrived home, my brother had already left".

What is the corrected way to report such a sentence?
    Is it
I said that by the time I had arrived home, my brother had already left"
    or is it
.... By the time I arrived home, my brother had already left?

    Thanks

    Re: Reported speech past perfect

Neither of your sentences is an example of reported speech. This is: I said that by thhe time I arrived home, my brother has already left.
