A wise head makes a close mouth. How to read close?

A wise head makes a close mouth.

How should I pronounce the word close in the above sentence ? Does itend in [s] or [z]?
    I need native speakers' help.

Probably the hard s, but really hard to say without context. It's also important to remind you (many posts) that what is probably an old idiom may incorporate a usage that has changed over time. Today we would make the small change to 'a closed mouth'.

The hard sound is the [z].

I would call it voiced, but it's essentially the same thing.
