Hi,

Are the following correct?

I have to go to school tomorrow.
I have got to go to school tomorrow.
You don't have to read that book.
You don't have got to read that book.
Do you have to use my phone?
Do you have got to use my phone?

I am not sure about sentences four and six. They seem weird to me. Anyhow, the "have got" structure can be used for emphasis, but otherwise it's not necessary.

You don't have got to read that book. :cross:
Do you have to use my phone? :tick:
Do you have got to use my phone? :cross:

You can only use to have got to in the affirmative in AmE. For example:

A: I really need this right away. You've got to help me with it!
B: I don't have to do anything for you.

You can say I haven't got to do ... and Have I got to do ...? in BrE

Thanks. I've edited my post.

Untaught88, the error you made in You don't have got to read that book and Do you have got to use my phone? was that the negative and interrogative forms have auxiliary verbs which you should modify for those forms. You have got to becomes Have you got to or You haven't got to.
