sitting on the stove to be heated

    Which is correct:

    1) The soup was sitting on the stove to be heated up at lunchtime.

    2) The soup was sitting on the stove to heat up at lunchtime.

I believe only '1' is correct. '2' sounds wrong to me.

    Gratefully,
    Navi.

    You'll hear both versions.

Re: sitting on the stove to be heated

"The soup was (sitting) on the stove, ready to heat up at lunch time" would be more natural.
“Every miserable fool who has nothing at all of which he can be proud, adopts as a last resource pride in the nation to which he belongs; he is ready and happy to defend all its faults and follies tooth and nail, thus reimbursing himself for his own inferiority.”
