    are there/ are there any

    Hello!

    1. Are there any solar panels in this house?
    2. Are there solar panels in this house?

Grammar books say that in questions we must use ,,any'', but I also see questions formed without it, like in N2.

Are both of these sentences correct, and if yes, what's the difference between them?

Both sentences are fine. I'm not sure I could say the same for a grammar book that says otherwise.

Solar panels in the house wouldn't work.

'Does this house have solar panels?'
'Does this house benefit from solar panels?'

Yes. Solar panels are usually ON houses, not IN houses.

It means the same thing with and without the ANY.
I'm not a teacher. I speak American English. I've tutored writing at the University of Southern Maine and have done a good deal of copy editing and writing, occasionally for publication.

    No, they don't.

Re: are there/ are there any

My fading memory tells me that some student grammars do in fact say this. They are, of course, wrong.
