Is given by OK, but should I use prescribed by?

I was suffering from diarrhoea. I saw a doctor. Soon after taking the medicine given by the doctor, the diarrhoea stopped.

Is given by OK, but should I use prescribed by?

    Thanks.

'...given by' is OK, but '...prescribed by' is better.

If the doctor handed the medicine to you, you can say given by. If he or she wrote you a prescription which you had filled at a pharmacy, you should say prescribed by.
