    The amount of story

    "I knew only this much story so I told you this much only".

    "I told you the amount (I think it's incorrect to use amount here) of story I knew".

    These don't work for me. You could use something like I told you as much of the story as I knew.

    Tdol said exactly what I would say. You might use the present tense, know, if you're saying it to someone now.
    I'm not a teacher. I speak American English. I've tutored writing at the University of Southern Maine and have done a good deal of copy editing and writing, occasionally for publication.

    "I can tell you as much of the incident as I know".

    The first is fine. I'd use 'about' rather than 'of' in the second.
