    On a bus/train/plane

Is there some logical explanation to the use of the preposition 'on' in the phrases like 'on a bus/train/plane'?
You say 'in a car', but 'on a bus'. Do you consider cars to be three dimensional spaces and buses two dimensional?
If I were a native speaker of English, I would never shut up. :-)

Try not to worry about looking for any "logic" behind the use of prepositions. It's mostly idiomatic.
