    Several grammar problems

    Hi , everyone.
    1. I want to ask you guys whether the second ' to be ' is necessary. In other words , can I simply write 'I am so happy to be here tonight and able to share to share xxxxx'?

    - I am so happy to be here tonight and to be able to share this evening with friends and students. (original sentence)

    2. Can I delete ';' in this sentence?
    - And I feel that you and I have grown together; and I will always remember you.

    3. Can I simply write ' you have seen me at times being strict , stern , disorganized....'?
    - - You have seen me at times being strict, being stern, being disorganized, being playful, being forgetful.

    4. Is 'that' before 'you will all do well xxxx' necessary?
    - - I hope you will enjoy the remaining weeks of your school life and that you will all do well in your exams.

    Thank you.

    Yes, you can say:

    Re: Several grammar problems

Sentence three is fine as is.

If you take "that" out of sentence four it will change the meaning of the sentence.

Thank you for your help. But can you tell me why I should keep the comma?

    Re: Several grammar problems

It's a compound sentence (two sentences connected by a conjunction (and)), so you need the comma there.

    Okay?

    Re: Several grammar problems

You can also leave out the second "to": I am happy to be here tonight and share . . . .
I'm not a teacher. I speak American English. I've tutored writing at the University of Southern Maine and have done a good deal of copy editing and writing, occasionally for publication.
