That sounds a bit too formal for this context. People like the police and other officials are interested in your identity. When a friend introduces his girlfriend, he just tells you her name (or, in this case, he doesn't!)

Out of curiosity, what was his girlfriend's reaction when he told you the wrong name? You said that you saw them together and your friend introduced her to you, saying that her name was Anjali, when it's actually Sonia. Surely Sonia said "That's not my name! Why did you get my name wrong?"

We would not have understood the Hindi words, but it would have helped us to know you were talking about the dialogue from a film.
