the profits of both Acme Sports Cars

Due to a boost in economy in the fourth quarter reported by the media, at the beginning of financial year, both the profits of Acme Sports Cars and Branson Motors increased steadily.

    Which version is more suitable?
    1. both the profits of Acme Sports Cars and Branson Motors increased steadily.
    2. the profits of both Acme Sports Cars and Branson Motors increased steadily.

Re: the profits of both Acme Sports Cars

The second is correct. The first says, in reverse order that a) Branson Motors increased, and b) Acme Sports Cars' profits increased. A company can't increase, so sentence 1 doesn't make sense.
