    Re: I'm walking to Chicago?

    How would you write it?
“Every miserable fool who has nothing at all of which he can be proud, adopts as a last resource pride in the nation to which he belongs; he is ready and happy to defend all its faults and follies tooth and nail, thus reimbursing himself for his own inferiority.”

    Re: I'm walking to Chicago?

The characters are a thousand miles from Chicago. When Andrew's mom tells him the proverb about the first step of a journey, he imagines that he has to walk there.

He uses the present continuous because it means the journey is in progress or about to begin.
