    take under

    Which are correct:

    1) They say they want 220 dollars to do the job and won't take under.

    2) They say they want 220 dollars to do the job and won't take under 220.
    3) They say they want 220 dollars to do the job and won't take less.

    I think '1' doesn't work and '2' is a bit repetitive.

    I agree.
    I'm not a teacher. I speak American English. I've tutored writing at the University of Southern Maine and have done a good deal of copy editing and writing, occasionally for publication.
