Mark has gone to his grandparentsí farm every summer since he was a little boy.

    -- Whereís Jack?
-- He has gone to London.
    (Jack is not here.)

    Where has Mary been?
She has been to the library.
    (Mary is here.)

Iím confused by the following sentence.
Mark has gone to his grandparentsí farm every summer since he was a little boy. (LETíS GO, Oxford University Press)
I wonder where Mark is. Can I change the sentence into this: Mark has been to his grandparentsí farm every summer since he was a little boy.

    THANKS FOR YOUR REPLY.

    I would say:

Mark has been going to his grandparents' farm every summer since he was a little boy.

(Mary is here.) Right, but we would probably just say "The library."

Both are correct and mean the same thing.

    THANKS FOR YOUR REPLY.
What confuses you about the two statements about Mark?
I'm not a teacher. I speak American English. I've tutored writing at the University of Southern Maine and have done a good deal of copy editing and writing, occasionally for publication.

    Mary is not necessarily 'here'.

Good point. It depends on the context.
