from doing what other people expect

I do have a considerable fund of experience with the attitudes toward work of average people, immature people, neurotic and borderline people, psychopaths, etc., and there is no question whatsoever that their attitudes cluster around money, basic-need gratifications (rather than B-Values), sheer habit, stimulus-binding, neurotic needs, convention, and inertia (the unexamined and nonquestioned life), and from doing what other people expect or demand.
(The Farther Reaches of Human Nature; Abraham H. Maslow)

Would you be so kind as to tell me how exactly the part in bold connects to the rest of the sentence?

    Thanks.

Re: from doing what other people expect

It's just another thing on the list (reasons people work).

Re: from doing what other people expect

    Thank you Tarheel.

[...] there is no question whatsoever that their attitudes cluster around
    1. money
    2. basic-need gratifications
    ... etc.
    3. from doing what other people expect or demand

Have I understood it correctly that this is how the list is constructed?

    Thanks.

Re: from doing what other people expect

The author has committed a "parallelism" error, forgetting how the list was constructed as he or she reached its end. The last item doesn't match its antecedent.

You could change the part in bold to something like:

    conforming to other people's expectations.
