    Semicircular formation

    Hello,

What would a native speaker use?

"The last defenders created a semicircular formation at the wall."

"The last defenders formed a semicircle at the wall."

    Thanks a lot.

    Re: Semicircular formation

Of the two, I would use the second one.
“Every miserable fool who has nothing at all of which he can be proud, adopts as a last resource pride in the nation to which he belongs; he is ready and happy to defend all its faults and follies tooth and nail, thus reimbursing himself for his own inferiority.”

    Re: Semicircular formation

The first one sounds like they built some kind of fortification or defensive barricade.

The second is clearly referring to a standing arrangement.
