Usage of had twice in the same sentence

Can some one please explain the usage of had twice in the sentence. As to which incident happened first and can we use had twice in the same sentence. As far as I know with plupperfect/past perfect we cannot use had twice.

"The two guards had run all the way up to the Senior School and had informed others about the light. It took almost half and hour for the bravest among them to lead them back down to investigate".

The second had is redundant and clumsy but not incorrect. You can use had as many times as necessary in a sentence. For example, He hadn't had as much experience as you had had, had he?

And the classic, "Peter, where Mary had had 'had', had had 'had had'."

So in the present we would say " He hasn't had/got as much experience as you've had/got, has he?
