    When the passengers boarded

Would you please correct my mistakes in the following sentence?

When the passengers boarded the plane, the pilot announced that the take-off was going to be delayed due to heavy rain.

    Re: When the passengers boarded

    I would say,
"After the passengers had boarded the plane, the pilot announced that take-off was going to be delayed due to heavy rain."
