your work to that of the gods.

She disguised herself as an old woman and appeared at Arachne's house.
Watching the speed and skill of Arachne's hands, she said, "Surely Athena has blessed your hands.“
When she watched the speed and skill of Arachne’s hands,
Then Arachne stopped her weaving and said, "blessed by Athena? Athena, herself, could take lessons from me."
Athena gave her this advice, "Your picture is so beautiful. Athena would be proud of your skill.
But it is unwise to compare your work to that of the gods.

Does it have to be "that" only? Can "those" also work if you compare with multiple pieces of works?
your work to that of the gods.

Re: your work to that of the gods.

You could use those only with a plural reference: It is unwise to compare your works to those of the gods.

By the way, it is a dummy pronoun in this sentence, just like the one I explained in this thread.
    I am not a teacher.
