    Slightly wash?

    Hi there!

John's hands are dirty. The only water available is freezing cold. He is determined to, at least, remove some of the dirt. Is it correct to say that he'll wash his hands slightly? As in: John, slightly wash your hands and remove part of that dirt.

    Cheers,
    Tito

    Re: Slightly wash?

Well, it seems odd to instruct someone to only partially wash their hands, but I think I'd use 'lightly' instead of 'slightly'.

Sometimes we use 'rinse' instead of 'wash', to imply it's not a deep, thorough scrubbing.

I think a more natural phrasing might be something like "He dashed some water on his hands" or "He gave his hands a quick rinse".

"A quick rinse" fits perfectly in that context. :)
