    Closing threads

emsr2d2 closed this thread because the thread starter had had enough. I feel that a thread 'belongs' to all who have submitted posts. Anyone, including the thread starter, is free to leave at any time, but I don't think any member has the right to request the closing of a thread. (Actually, they have the right to request it, but not the right to expect it.)

Mods, of course, have the right to close a thread for any of a number of good reasons. One member's umbrage is not, in my opinion, such a reason. I therefore request that this thread be re-opened.

    Re: Closing threads

I ummed and ahhed about that thread. Initially, I didn't close the thread but when I went back in to edit my post, it seemed to me that we had all had enough of it, so I clicked "Close Thread" that time. I didn't consider myself to be doing it at the OP's request though I realise that my wording might have sounded like I was. It has been reopened but it doesn't appear to be going anywhere from a language point of view.

    You are right.

In light of what you have said, I shall post no further objection if you decide to re-close the thread.

    Re: Closing threads

I have no current plan to re-close it but I think we mods will be keeping a close eye on it.

I have just re-read this thread. The part I have quoted above seems both pompous and patronising now. I apologise.

(I'd just accidentally dropped my last cigarette into my last shot of gin. I was not in a good mood. )

Things are flaring up, but I would leave it open for now.

That's just Piscean's drink - I vote to call it a "Flaming Plantation".

    Get it? Tobacco, gin, fire....

Be careful! Hell hath no fury like that of a smoking alcoholic deprived of his last gin and gasper.

    Re: Closing threads

I think you'd something stronger for a truly Piscean Flaming Plantation.

    Re: Closing threads

Ohh, that's a good name too - Hell's Furry, although it loses the tobacco reference somewhat.

Customer: I'd like a Flaming Plantation, please.
Barkeep: Certainly sir. Is Tanqueray and Marlboro okay?
C: Naw, let's go with Bombay Sapphire and Gold Flake. Shaken, strain the ash, hold the filter.
B: Yessir, one Flaming British Colonial Plantation coming right up.
