Closing threads

emsr2d2 closed this thread because the thread starter had had enough. I feel that a thread 'belongs' to all who have submitted posts. Anyone, including the thread starter, is free to leave at any time, but I don't think any member has the right to request the closing of a thread. (Actually, they have the right to request​ it, but not the right to expect it.)

Mods, of course, have the right to close a thread for any of a number of good reasons. One member's umbrage is not, in my opinion, such a reason. I therefore request that this thread be re-opened.

I ummed and ahhed about that thread. Initially, I didn't close the thread but when I went back in to edit my post, it seemed to me that we had all had enough of it, so I clicked "Close Thread" that time. I didn't consider myself to be doing it at the OP's request though I realise that my wording might have sounded like I was. It has been reopened but it doesn't appear to be going anywhere from a language point of view.

I have just re-read this thread. The part I have quoted above seems both pompous and patronising now. I apologise.
