    on a school night

Lucy: Mum, could I go to cinema tonight?
Mum: No, not on a school night.

Mum: You may go to the cinema on Friday. And Ill pick you up outside the cinema at ten oclock.

Children go to school from Monday to Friday. Does a school night refer to any night of the weekdays? What about Friday night? Why does Mum allow Lucy to go to cinema on Friday night?
Isnt Friday night a school night?

    Re: on a school night

A school night is the night before a school day because school children have to go to bed earlier when they have school the next morning. Hence Sunday through Thursday nights are school nights.

Lucy forgot the definite article before cinema.
