    which is _____ scientifically

People have been arguing about the result, which is _____ scientifically. (A) debating (B) debatable (C) debate (D) debated

In Taiwan, some teachers think option B is correct, others think option D is correct. Which option do native speakers think is correct?
    I need native speakers' help.

    Re: which is _____ scientifically

When something is debatable, a consensus cannot be reached and people keep arguing about it.
Thus, I think B is the best answer. D is not as natural since it just duplicates "arguing".
    I am not a teacher.

I prefer b), but cannot say that d) is incorrect. The problem is that it's not a very good sentence either way.

    Re: which is _____ scientifically

    NOT A TEACHER

    Hello, Sitifan:

Your humble servant agrees with tedmc and the Editor: B.

    1. The problem, as I see it, is the placement of the adverb "scientifically."

    a. Would the "right" answer be more obvious if the adverb were positioned like this: "... about the result, which is scientifically debatable."

    2. Would the "right" answer be more apparent if you (mentally) reworded the sentence like this:

    A. Scientifically speaking / From a scientific viewpoint, the result is debatable."

    3. Perhaps "D" might be grammatically correct if the verb "is" were in the past:

"People have been arguing about the result, which was scientifically debated / was debated scientifically."
