    settle the destination

France held out against German pressure before Griezmann settled the destination of a pulsating semi-final with 18 minutes left when he turned in from close range after keeper Manuel Neuer could only half-clear Paul Pogba's cross.

Is the underlined part naturally collocated? What does "settle" mean here? Can it mean "put an end to"?

    Re: settle the destination

It's odd to an American to think of a game having a "destination," but it is not unusual to think of something "settling" a game. "Settle" here means to determine or decide (the outcome of the game).
