for the feeling of being in church, the standing

The forest is a preparation for the feeling of being in church, the standing before God among pillars and columns.
    (Crowds and Power; E. Canetti)

I suppose it can't be read as 'a preparation for the feeling of the standing'; would you be so kind as to tell me whether I am right?

    Thanks.

You're right. Write a preparation for the feeling of standing....
