    Outside of his family

Would you please correct my mistakes in the following sentences?

    1. When asked about his life experiences, John had to admit he did not know much about the world outside his family.
    2. Some journalists reproached the President candidate that his worldview did not extend beyond his friends' circle.

The first is fine. The second needs presidential (not capitalized because it isn't a proper noun) and gets a little odd at the end. Perhaps you mean Some journalists reproached the presidential candidate because his worldview did not extend beyond his circle of friends.

    Re: Outside of his family

I thought your question was going to be about the difference between 'outside his family' and 'outside of his family'.

(FYI, the version without 'of' is more common.)
