    I call before

    Hello,

I am racking my brain what the part I call before could mean. Can anybody help me?

There was a time I call before
When all I knew was what I saw
The keeper of a major key
I lived in a town called Liberty

New Order, Love Less, 1989, lyrics

    Thanks a lot.

    Re: I call before

I would guess that it means he calls (names) that time "before".

Yes, I think he's making a distinction between the present and his past.

    Re: I call before

He could also mean, "There was a time, I call before me/ I recall." It could also mean both.
