    Now that...

    Hi

    Could you check the verse of Omar Khayyám I translated into English?

    Now that no one cares about the mind in the world,
    Now that a shallow-minded has much money,
    Bring the wine so that it blows our minds;
    Maybe they would like us just like that!

    I fully understand how difficult it is to translate poetry. But to be honest, I don't think your effort makes a lot of sense or sounds very good. I hope you don't mind my being honest.

    Re: Now that...

    I'd offer to help but I'm not sure how I can -- I can't read Arabic.

    Hi. It's mostly that I can't connect any of the four lines together. But there are also problems with each individual line:

    L1: I don't know what is meant by "the mind in the world"
    L2: "shallow-minded" is usually an adjective but here it's a noun
    L3: Okay, though "blow one's mind" has a special meaning. Wine doesn't usually do that.
    L4: Who are "they"? Just like what?
    Can you ask these under the thread? So it would be useful for the forum :)
    Sure, if the moderators don't have a problem. Here you go.

    Re: Now that...

    1. I meant wisdom/intelligence, maybe I shouldn't have used "the"
    2. A shallow-minded "person", I forgot to add
    3. I found this https://www.reddit.com/r/wine/commen...will_blow_my/?
    4. They = Other people, just like that = In drunk mood

    Re: Now that...

    What about this:

    Now that no one in the world cares about the mind,
    Now that the shallow-minded are rich,
    Bring the wine so that it blows our minds;
    Maybe they would like us just like that!
    “Every miserable fool who has nothing at all of which he can be proud, adopts as a last resource pride in the nation to which he belongs; he is ready and happy to defend all its faults and follies tooth and nail, thus reimbursing himself for his own inferiority.”
