    Talking Can not or Could not

    Hi Teacher,

    Could you please advise me, should I use which one in the situatione as below;

    I tried to find an important file in a computer but can not find it , then I sent a message to another worker that " I couldn't find it" or " I can not find it"

    Re: Can not or Could not

    I couldn't find it if you have stopped looking and I can't find it if you may resume looking. The second may suggest that you are hoping your colleague can give you some indication of where it might be.

    If you use the uncontracted form, note that cannot is written as one word.

    Don't put a space before a comma or after an opening quotation mark. Remember to end every sentence with appropriate punctuation.
    I am not a teacher.
