Tell him who Benny is/ Tell him who is Benny

Which variant is grammatically correct and can be used as an example in academic studies of English grammar?

    1) Tell him who Benny is.
    2) Tell him who is Benny.
If I were a native speaker of English, I would never shut up. :-)
