    Sequence of Tenses

I learn that my friend has a brother. Is it absolutely unacceptable if instead of
    “I didn’t know you had a brother.
    I say
    “I didn’t know you have a brother.”

    Re: Sequence of Tenses

I think 'have' is acceptable as long as the listener still has a brother in the present.
    I am not a teacher.
