    off/from the coast of Brazil

    Dear friends,

Below you'll see the sentences I'd like to ask you about:

    1) The airplane flying from Rio to Paris crashed into the Atlantic ocean 250 km off the coast of Brazil

    2) The airplane flying from Rio to Paris crashed into the Atlantic ocean 250 km from the coast of Brazil

What's the difference between "off" and "from" in the sentences above?

    Thanks

    There is no significant difference.
