    The reading room

I am wondering if my sentence sounds natural. Would you please correct my mistakes?

The reading room was silent but for the rustle of papers, occasional cough and squeak of a chair.

    Re: The reading room

Just for once, I'd recommend adding the definite article before all three of the noises described.
Remember - if you don't use correct capitalisation, punctuation and spacing, anything you write will be incorrect.

    Re: The reading room

    Thank you again emsr,

I have seen similar sentences like mine with only one article before the noun, and therefore I have decided to use it only once. I would like to know why in this case I need the article before all three nouns.

You don't need it, but it sounds more natural.

    Re: The reading room

I don't think the sentence works without all three articles.
