    The game was not attended

Would you please take a look at my sentence and correct my mistakes? I am not sure about my punctuation.

The game was not attended by thousands as it had been anticipated but by a few hundreds at most.

Re: The game was not attended

    I would say,
The game was not attended by thousands as (it) had been anticipated but by a couple of hundred at most.

Re: The game was not attended

"A few hundred" is more than "a couple of hundred" so I would stick with the original but the OP should note that there should be no "s" on "hundred".
Remember - if you don't use correct capitalisation, punctuation and spacing, anything you write will be incorrect.
