How can I describe something that happens in waves?

    Hello,

I would like to know an adjective to describe something that happens or comes in waves, just as we say, " it never rains it pours," for the following sentences:

After a bout of uncontrollable rage, she settled down.
The pain does not come and go, it comes in waves ( in large quantity and with full intensity again and again).

    Thank you.

Re: How can I describe something that happens in waves?

You've used exactly the phrase I would use. It can be called intermittent pain but I would say that the pain came in waves.

A bout of uncontrollable rage refers only to one instance. It doesn't suggest a repeated occurrence.
Remember - if you don't use correct capitalisation, punctuation and spacing, anything you write will be incorrect.

There's 'surge', but that doesn't necessarily indicate repetition.

Edit: If you said 'ripples' of pain, that could indicate repetition.
