I need to get this machine working by 5 pm.

Is 'working' gerund here?

The object is 'machine' so it may not be gerund. 'need' is the main verb and so it is in simple present tense. The 'working' could be a verb but not sure.

I think 'working' is gerund here.

'machine working' is the object.

Not sure yet.

I consider 'working' a present participle modifying 'machine', the direct object of 'get'.

I'm sorry for offtopic. Rock-onn, may I ask you a question? I wonder why do you always want to know what a part of speech this or that word is? Just of out curisoity.

Your signature says 'Please, correct all my mistakes', and I found some below.

I'm sorry for being off topic. Rock-onn, may I ask you a question? I wonder why [STRIKE]do[/STRIKE] you always want to know what [STRIKE]a[/STRIKE] part of speech this or that word is.[STRIKE]?[/STRIKE] It is just [STRIKE]of[/STRIKE] out of curiosity.

Please tell me whether the above corrections are correct.

I think the final part of Boris' post was meant to be a question.

If so, I think the question should have been 'Just out of curiosity, why do you always want to know what part of speech this or that word is?'

Hi Boris,

I am just practising identifying the parts of speech and now I am little fast in it. I may go wrong in unfamiliar sentences. This practice made me understand English better. I put much effort in learning English. I believe such practice will help me.
