Question tag —The team was cooperative...

This is a new thread in which we will discuss some sentences that need suitable question tags.
The sentence is:

The team was cooperative,........?

My opinion: "wasn't it/weren't they?"

I'd prefer wasn't it? but I wouldn't be surprised to hear weren't they? in AmE. BrE would, I think, allow for the team were cooperative, which would make weren't they? ​the only natural tag.

What if it was "The team played well"?

Can it be "didn't it?"? as another correct question tag.

Didn't it would be my first choice, but I wouldn't be surprised to hear an American say didn't they.
