    But both library or collection make no sense to me? Does they imply a relation between books? Are they related books?

    Thank you.

    Re: library of five hundred volumes

    I have about 100 books on English grammar on my shelves. I could say that I have a library of about 100 books on English grammar.

    Before I left England some time ago, I had a library of 1,00 books. some of them had no connection at all with others.

    All the books are kept at one place which is called a library or a collection.

    Then can we say that library here implies that the books are owned from a library?

    Thank you

    Re: library of five hundred volumes

    A personal library is not necessarily in one place. My son's library is now housed in flats in Istanbul, Manchester and Prague.

    Re: library of five hundred volumes

    hhtt21, your dictionary should tell you that a library has at least two meanings:

    1 a collection of books;

    2 a building in which lots of books and other things are stored for people to borrow or look at.

    In the context of this question, #1 is the meaning you want.

    If your dictionary does not give both of the above definitions, throw it away and rely on OneLook.com.

    Re: library of five hundred volumes

    What if we say "we owned five hundred volumes" instead of "we owned a library of five hundred volumes"?

    Thank you.
