    These definitions illustrate a common meaning for each word.

    an obsession = "someone or something that a person thinks about constantly or frequently". (Merriam-Webster)
    a compulsion = "an irresistible urge to behave in a certain way". (Oxford)

    I have an obsession with strawberry ice cream, and every time I walk past the shop I feel this compulsion to go in and buy some.
