    I made a mistake/I did a mistake

I read an article from a website. It says 'do' usually refers to an action and 'make' usually refers to the result.

    I made a mistake.(correct English)
    I did a mistake.(Wrong English)

This I inferred from reading that blog but not sure though I am correct.
