how to deal with the frustration

Hopefully, these meditation exercises have addressed your need for a physical process to facilitate positive consciousness development. However, in doing so, I may have created a new problem for you -- how to deal with the frustration that is often created by the inadequacy of doing to produce dramatic spiritual progress quickly.
    (My Big T.O.E.; T. Campbell)

Would you be so kind as to tell me whether it is possible to read it in either of the two following ways:

    1) how to deal with the frustration (that is often created by the inadequacy of doing) to produce dramatic spiritual progress quickly
    2) how to deal with the frustration that is often created by [the inadequacy of doing to produce dramatic spiritual progress quickly]

    Thanks.

On which grounds do you reject the second one?

That makes little sense to me.

'Doing' as opposed to 'not doing':

It's a cumbersome text, but I would be more likely to go with the second after your explanation.
