Does "see fit to do something" mean "find it fitting to do something"?

Hello everyone!

I have come up with sentences that use both "see fit to do something" and "find it fitting to do something".

  1. I saw fit to inform all the family of the wedding of Rachel and Robert.
  2. I found it fitting to inform all the family of the wedding of Rachel and Robert.

In my opinion, both the sentences mean exactly the same.

What do you think of them and what is your opinion on "find it fitting to do something"?

Thank you.

I think they are both unnatural.

We usually use to see fit to to express disapproval, when saying that someone does something despite what others think. We told him not to attend the ceremony, but he saw fit to come anyway.

To find it fitting to do something doesn't express disapproval.

So, the only difference between "see fit to do something" mean "find it fitting to do something" is that the latter doesn't express disapproval. Is "find it fitting to do something" widespread?

No, "find it fitting to do something" is rare and old-fashioned.
