    official and commissioner

    Dear teachers:
Could you please explain the difference between official and comissioner? To me the only difference is a commssioner is more importand than an official.

official: relating to a position of responsibility
commissioner: an important official who hasresponsibility in a government department or another organization

Looking forward to hearing from you.

The following definition might be worth your reference.

    'Commissioner
3 the head of a government department in some countries.'── quoted from http://www.oxfordlearnersdictionarie...q=commissioner

Don't use 'commissioner' unless you know that that is the title actually used by the official you are talking about.

    Re: official and commissioner

Commissioner is a job title. An official is a person with authority. Officials can have various job titles; commissioner is one of them, but there are many others.
