    Similarity of wish with hope.

Can I say " I wish future generations do not(instead of will not) lose it", like "I hope future generations don't lose it" ?

    Thankyou.

Re: Similarity of wish with hope.

We cannot use 'wish' in this way.

We can use 'wish' with the past subjunctive according to https://jakubmarian.com/wish-would-s...on-in-english/

So what are you suggesting for Meya's sentence, Matthew?

    That is not natural.

    That's even more unnatural.

Re: Similarity of wish with hope.

You can wish (that) a future situation over which someone has some form of control would happen.:

I wish (that) I could be here when you visit Prague next week.
I wish (that) you would come to Prague next year.

We normally hope (that) other situations will happen.
