    Verb "feed off"

I have tried to use "feed off" in my sentences. Would you please correct my mistakes?

    1. The media feeds off the public's insatiable hunger for scandals, crime and intrigues.
    2. The president fed off the rallies his supporters organized all over the country.
    3. John had a bad conscience because he fed off the failure of other competitors.

    Re: Verb "feed off"

"Other competitors" suggests you've already discussed some competitors. Write "... of his competitors" if you want to include all of them.

I see your point, but they needn't necessarily have been his competitors. They could have been competing in other events.
