In the exams VS on the exams

Normally, I used the preposition ‘in’ in the sentence
Have you ever cheated IN the exams?
But recently I ran into the same sentence but with the preposition ‘on’
Have you ever cheated ON the exams?
Is it American English or it's Ok in British English too?

Re: In the exams VS on the exams

We tend to use test rather than "exam" in AmE, and on when talking about one. So we'd be more likely to say Have you ever cheated on a test?
    I am not a teacher.

Re: In the exams VS on the exams

In BrE, an exam and a test are different things.

I'd use "Have you ever cheated in an exam?". With "test", I wouldn't like to choose between "in" and "on". I'd use both.
Remember - if you don't use correct capitalisation, punctuation and spacing, anything you write will be incorrect.
