    a full-scale sporting competition

These few athletes show that the Paralympics are not a half-measure but a full-scale sporting competition.

    Hi,
Is "sporting" in the above equivalent to "sports?" Thanks.

'Sporting' is an adjective, while 'sports' is a noun.

I think it is a noun functioning as an adjective.
    I am not a teacher.
