    The lives of the people.

"In old time the lives of the people were much better than the lives of the today's people."

"We are comparing the lives of the people in the past with the lives of the today's people."

    Please check.

'People in the past led much better lives than people today do.'

    I think otherwise, though.

Re: The lives of the people.

"... the today's people" doesn't work. In the first part, you correctly used "people in the past" so try to come up with a similar construction referring to today (the present).
Remember - if you don't use correct capitalisation, punctuation and spacing, anything you write will be incorrect.

That's better but you can now remove the definite article before "people" (both times) and you can remove "time".
Remember - if you don't use correct capitalisation, punctuation and spacing, anything you write will be incorrect.

Re: The lives of the people.

That is correct. There are ways of shortening it but your sentence is grammatical and understandable.
