I’m used to the preposition ‘in’ in the sentences like
My parents encouraged my interest in science.
But recently I came across
My parents encouraged my interest for science.
Is it ok?

Hmm, no, second doesn't work. You have an interest in, never and interest for.

Hmm, no, the second doesn't work. You have an interest in, never [strike]and[/strike] an interest for.

I've made a couple of typo corrections above, ChinaDan.

northpath, you might like to note that "in" is the correct preposition whether you choose to use "have an interest in" or "be interested in".
